In a company blog, storytelling is "simple", because the post will always be on topic. But how can storytelling be done in a niche blog? Here it is the copy that must be good. Going off topic is a risk, but the risk is necessary to do a job properly. However, it must be a job done by those who know what it is. – Beatrice Niciarelli It can happen. A bit like when at school we went "off topic" in the Italian class test.I tend to make a first draft of the story which is a sort of primordial magma, where I really insert everything that comes to mind that might be useful for telling it. Generally the result is a fairly chaotic first narrative. I reread it aloud, I find it very useful and then I start skimming, assembling and reassembling, piece by piece.
Until I feel like the story is flowing, with all the key Phone Number Data elements well developed and in the right place. I also tend to have someone totally unfamiliar with the brand and industry read the story. I need it to get feedback on the effectiveness of the narrative and its potential for emotional involvement. At the same time it is also useful for me to understand if I have (or have not) gone off-topic. If whoever reads it confirms to me that what I wanted to arrive through the story has reached its destination, I know I have remained on topic. – Katia Anna Calabrò As Beatrice rightly said, it is a risk that one always runs when approaching writing, from the final exam to the degree thesis, from the article in the New York Times to the post on the niche blog.
However, in this last specific case, I think that a little "off the air" every now and then can only be stimulating, bringing new and interesting points of view to a channel which, being niche, could otherwise be (almost) monothematic. – Marianna Guglielmino I use a rather simple method, which I consider very effective: a sheet of paper divided into two columns on which I write down the story on one side and the points I want to discuss starting from the story on the other. Subsequently I draw the connecting lines between the elements of the story and the topics to be developed, in order to verify that the article, as a whole, has a clear structure; this also allows you to eliminate less relevant topics or passages. However, I am not a fundamentalist in the fight against off-topic. Everyone gets off-topic from time to time, and choosing to keep certain elements off-topic can help bring out the author's personality.
